Blue Moon's Harvest Moon pumpkin ale is very tasty, but not as good as Buffalo Bill Brewing's.
The Harvest Moon is more wheaty and less spicy.

Cat puberty...Next she'll need thick glasses and braces.
So Gingham has kitty acne. Not a suprise really, but a pain in the butt none the less.
She gets liquid antibiotic twice a day for a week, and ointment twice a day as well.
The antibiotic is bubblegum flavored, of course. I'm thinking it's because the manufacturers know that at least a few drops'll wind up being flung onto the owner's mouth as the animal shakes it's head violently.
But bubblegum infused with cat spit isn't my cup of tea at all.

    Some advice needed
Well as I plan to move, we can't take the washer and dryer with us. Any suggestions on how to dispose of them/sell them/etc.?

The Weight Watchers goal of the month is to make a 4-week goal, then devise the steps necessary to reach that goal. You could basically choose anything more complicated than "lose weight" (which is just DUH).

I chose one of the areas I was having trouble with, called "Manage Your Feelings", because I thought I'd make quite a challenge, considering I'm pretty out of touch with what I'm feeling the majority of the time (unless it's really obvious). My first step is to pay attention to myself, so I've been stopping myself a few times every day and asking myself how I feel. It's been surprisingly enlightening.

For instance, yesterday I felt exhausted and sleepy, yet I also felt like I had some sort of built up energy in my body and I REALLY wanted to run after work. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to wash my gym clothes the night before, so I couldn't go.

Home has been making me feel on edge lately. My new roommate is all moved in and settled, which has made me UNsettled because she has so much CRAP. This house has been fairly minimalistic for the past year and a half, and within a week it's been filled with everything you could possibly imagine having in a house. There is just so much of her stuff in every room that I kinda feel like we've (my other roommate and I) been pushed out of every room but our own bedrooms.

I know I'll get used to the homey crap eventually and it doesn't piss me off much, but the fact that she's also brought everything she ever had in her kitchen and shoved it into our kitchen does...We already had a ton of kitchen stuff to begin with, but now there are stacks of extra pots crammed in the cupboards, handfuls of random pieces of appliances tucked away in unrelated drawers, her food crammed into not only her two pantry shelves, but also on the counter, AND she took over one of MY pantry shelves as well as part of my overhead cabinet.

The pantry shelf I wasn't too worried about, since I really only used it for my one box of cereal and one box of tea and occasionally one box of crackers, but I use that overhead cabinet pretty extensively... so I gave her the pantry shelf and moved her crap out of my overhead. If she doesn't like that, she can kiss my ass, cuz that's about as much space as I'm willing to relinquish. Not my fault she is preparing for surviving a nuclear war.

I obsessed over this shit all last night. That's how I realized just how stressed out I was. I don't obsessively think about (mostly) unimportant things unless I'm stressed.

I heard my other roommate bringing up the subject of the new roommate leaving lights on all over the house. (I'm a pretty shameless eavesdropper ) The new roommate spouted some bullshit about being afraid of the dark (she leaves lights on during the daytime, too, though) and offered to pay half of the power bill. Neither of them mentioned their conversation to me, though, or asked me if it was alright. I would've agreed to it, but I still feel annoyed that I wasn't included in the discussion, or at least been made aware of it later on when I made a couple of passes through the living room with them both sitting there.

    Old Car
Mama wrote me today to tell me that they'd taken the old Saab to the dump, along with its manuals and spare parts and all. One of the local kids is going to fix it up, which is better than having it crunched and squashed.

End of an era. The thing is 24 now.

Mama reminded me that I hadn't given a summary of the memorial. Happily, I was able to crib from my LJ summary. Here's for LJ!

pretty much my favorite poem ever
I was leaving this in comments to someone else, and couldn't remember if I'd shared it generally.

    1.
the child of your dreams slips into the world wet
and quick, a sudden bundle of teeth and claws
shredding the welcome you've prepared for it,
hairy, rancid, yelping: not at all
the sort of creature you thought you'd get.
the moral's simply this: when the sky falls
you learn to live with fallen sky -- and put
your purebred hopes onto whatever pulls
at the long leash of your heart. something will
sniff your socks and lay its head in your lap
as if it were all you ever asked for. perhaps
it is: just feel, when you try to pull
your fingers through that sitcky, stinking fur,
how quickly you're entangled with what's here

    Book Reviews!
Here are a couple of five-pawprint-reviews for your perusal:

The Long Descent by John Michael Greer

If you think technology will preserve industrial civilization, this book may piss you off. If you're waiting anxiously for the Apocalypse in many of its varied forms, this book may piss you off. If you are not of the above two groups, this book may still piss you off. However, it may also inspire you to some innovative new ways of looking at where the world is going, particularly as the stores of oil continue to deplete, with resultant effects on the economy. So what's all the fuss about? Read the review at the link above, and find out! (Not quite a pagan book, but it's by a well-known pagan/occult author, and includes a chapter on spirituality in the future.)

Drawing the Three of Coins by Terri Paajanen

If you've ever had an interest in opening a pagan shop someday, even a mild interest, you'll want to read this book. More details in the review at the link above.

    Religion & education in Sweden
Sweden recently rules that even private schools cannot teach religion as if it was true, they can describe it, teach classes about various faiths, but they cannot teach it as fact, which seems to me to be an absolutely wonderful idea. Individuals & churches are still free to teach religion to their children, they just can't do so in schools. I look at this and am saddened by the fact that there is no chance of such a law being passed in the US anytime in the next two decades, if ever. I'm a person of (fairly eccentric) faith, and have no objection to teaching religion, but other than having in the context of history, social science or comparative religion, but having schools teaching any single faith as true seems to introduce needless and deeply problematic confusion between religious teaching and conventional education.

    Ethanol?
Have any of you tried making your own ethanol to use in your car?  If you did how did you do it?  If you haven't then how would you go about it?

I'm thinking of trying it myself but have to find a way to distill and to find a recipe for the mash that's cheap.  I have ideas but it's too early to know if it'll work or not.  I wonder if i could just use sugar water and bread yeast...

The spider issue has been (temporarily) resolved.
The second time I went down to the basement, I smooshed two more.
Every time afterwards, I took a piece of random long, thin piece of wood, and every huge ass spider that showed up got a major death beating.
The last time I went down, no spiders anywhere in sight.
I like to think they now tell stories to each other about the bad-ass human that swaggers around, dispensing death like a swift and divine wind.
Yeah...I'm the ronin of spider death.

    Tweets for 2008-08-27
In the last 24 hours, I posted the following to Twitter:
    • Monday, 2355: Eee spending time with best friend is fun. And then we got into writing-geekery. He needs more practice, and a day job. :D
    • Monday, 2357: @kestrelct I recommend a spreadsheet to track them. Or something.
    • Tuesday, 0025: Yeah, "oh girl" sums this one up: http://tinyurl.com/5g7nrw
    • Tuesday, 0026: I'm all a-buzz now. Thanks, best friend in the universe. Note to self: dig up folder with thing, just in case it is the one.
    • Tuesday, 0149: Had to explain the following to best friend: two roommates (not one), and the difference between Steph and Shawn. :D Silly man.
    • Tuesday, 0150: (That last in the context of Crossover vs. Knightmares, heh.)
    • Tuesday, 0448: Have warned roommates that R. Daneel, who is short, red, noisy, and has running lights, is loose in the kitchen and dining room.
    • Tuesday, 0559: The dining room and kitchen look SO NICE. Thanks, R. Daneel!
    • Tuesday, 0616: R. Daneel is now charging the charge of the just. I suspect they make the charger easy-release because of the nature of Roomba.
    • Tuesday, 0655: top 50 hottest sci-fi girls, hee! Very clearly written by/for the geekboy. http://tinyurl.com/5744nb
    • Tuesday, 0658: After the Roombalucion, Tango reminded me of Adventures with Toy Blimps: http://www.roadandtravel.com/adventuretravel/blimp.htm
    • Tuesday, 0702: @idonotlikepeas Yes, yes I do. He also solves mysteries in his spare time, like "Where the **** did the cats put that?!?!"
    • Tuesday, 0716: Chores log: took out the trash, brought in the rest of the groceries.
    • Tuesday, 0728: @marcelle42 The very one! [lj]Myrrhianna insists that when the living room is done, it must be with the cats present. Can hardly wait.
    • Tuesday, 0731: Working my way through the mood theme. I suspect I will not get this done via the console, which makes for less easy packaging for later.
    • Tuesday, 0733: Need to re-read the Sith Academy at least once every two years, and I am overdue: http://www.siubhan.com/sithacademy
    • Tuesday, 0802: @afuna WILL IS SO MUCH FUN. (For those on the same IRC network: #shakespeare, talk to Will.)
    • Tuesday, 0808: "...Monday, fill the flask with Tic-Tacs." (wait, that's not how the song goes?) http://tinyurl.com/5pcq73
    • Tuesday, 0831: Whee, I have decommissioned my mood icons that were hosted at Petridish, and moved hosting to LJ. Readers should expect more stability.
    • Tuesday, 0902: R. Daneel, having charged, is now covering the living room. The old TV stand is problematic, and the lovely geometric rug is too high.
    • Tuesday, 0902: The geometric rug will just need manual vacuuming. Dismount is not an issue; mount is.
    • Tuesday, 0904: Roomba does not hurt when roombashing into your toes. It merely startles.
    • Tuesday, 0912: A broomstick laid horizontally upon the floor works decently as a Roomba wall, and a little more sharply defined than a virtual one.
    • Tuesday, 0925: Scheming about Vulcan mood themes (http://tinyurl.com/5uzqvw) Any strong emotion needs clever scripting.
    • Tuesday, 1024: @lady_angelina See link! Ask the creator!
    • Tuesday, 1027: @lady_angelina Join #shakespeare, say something with "will" somewhere in there. AI Will responds with random lines. He's seeded with Bard.
    • Tuesday, 1051: @marcelle42, @lady_angelina, my bad. He's an AI of some kind that takes seeded input then responds when spoken to. Ask Kira, he's hers.
    • Tuesday, 1310: Googled up pretty lyrics: http://tinyurl.com/5lvsru
    • Tuesday, 1356: @mayerman nom nom nom chocolate chips!
    • Tuesday, 1409: Local news: "Man who fired gun in hospital re-arrested" http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/124087 , retweeting @evtrib, wtf.
    • Tuesday, 1430: R. Daneel is on 3rd round of the day, sucking around the hall bathroom and the hall. Carried monitor down stairs for Myrrh. Am strong one.
    • Tuesday, 1431: @mayerman you may gain more appreciation in #shakespeare.
    • Tuesday, 1435: Nibs stood there looking at R. Daneel for like 2 minutes with a question-tail. When I emerged from the darkness, she fled, tail puffed a bit
    • Tuesday, 1450: Walled Daneel off somewhere that is not him RoomBonking my door.
    • Tuesday, 1454: via Making Light: Dr. Horrible ponies. http://tinyurl.com/6jhby4
    • Tuesday, 1502: Re-wailled, as my first attempt did not hold against a determined vacuum cleaner in search of dirt.
    • Tuesday, 2127: @mayerman But that would have been less fun.

Gingham's got a really crusty chin. She's had it for a little bit, but it was getting better.
On Sunday evening, when I got home from helping Stewart kitten-sit it was almost gone.
But last night it was hard and crusty and gross.
I'm hoping that it's just an allergy to her treats (I don't think it's her food because she's bee eating it for a while and no problems. I got her treats other than Greenies and that's when it started) and doesn't require pills.
I can't pill her well, and last time I almost caused her to strangle because she moved as I was pushing the pill to the back of her throat, and I pushed the pill into her windpipe.
She goes to the vet tomorrow, so we'll see.
