Our storyteller is characteristically late again, giving me extra time to finish up the foodstuffs. I've already got the table set out with devilled eggs with capers, and various things to drink. For dinner, I have a baking dish full of chicken, savory pumpkin cream sauce, and mozarella. I've already made up chicken broth to cook the mashed poatoes in. If I've time, I may also start baking a couple loaves of bread.
Now that I have access to lingonberry concentrate, I'd really like to try to reproduce some of the things I made back home. If I can get another ice cream maker, I could do the lingonberry sorbet I did one Thanksgiving. The one problem is that the concentrate Ikea sells is already sweetened, making it difficult to get the right tartness. Too-sweet things do not make good palate cleansers, and I'm rather fond of tart sorbet for an intermezzo in large meals. Since they don't have the actual frozen berries, I can't make preserves like we used to. They just wouldn't be the same. I'd be interested to play with making glazes from the concentrate, though.
I have not tried the blueberry stuff Ikea sells. I'm hoping they taste like the blueberries we had back north, rather than the sad excuses for berries which line the shelves here.
I need to hit the Russian grocery store again. I want to play with the pomegranite vinegar they had.
