    Time Event
    9:57a
After ordering most of the things people on my friends list recommended, my Amazon recommendations appear to be reforming themselves, albeit slowly. Its recommendations lists are still cluttered annoyingly with Mesopotamian history, even in categories where such books don't belong. Ordering two books on the subject does not mean I have an obsession with it. The history recommendations list seems alltogether oblivious to the fact that I've also been purchasing Greek history, Roman history, Celtic History, Scandinavian history, Medieval European history, and Chinese history.
But it's a start. It's only recommending about five Biblical history books now.
I fell asleep looking at a historical atlas last night, following the movements of dead empires accross Europe.
I got a book on Medieval Catholic view of WitchCraft and Shamanism. Sven and I realized that certain pagan groups (who shall remain anonymous) seem to have taken up practices which show up only in Medieval superstitions about witchcraft, and which we've been able to find nothing to indicate were actually practiced by any pagan group anywhere. Curiosity got the better of me, so I got more pretty books to find out about the matter.
I spent yesterday mostly immersed in the history of the Borgias. Our modern villains are slacking, if the many descriptions of Borgia dress are accurate. Lucrezia and Cesare seem to have worn black with gold trim near everywhere, and when they weren't wearing that, black with purple trim. Whether strangling, poisoning, or at dear Lucrezia's second wedding, they looked like proper villains. Suits just don't have the same ominous touch. (Even when you wear them, Erelin.)
Silver let me know last night that she'll be moving to Portland. I don't know the date, but it will involve lots of food. I'm told she's not been eating well. She's always been a good excuse for me to cook, once doing a seven course dinner just because she was passing through town. If she hasn't been consuming enough protein, then perhaps it's time for me to pick up more wild boar. I've also been wanting to do some cooking with reindeer.
